About Project Joy
Our Mission Statement
Project Joy is a charitable, non-profit organization, dedicated to providing children and families living in Brookings County , who are in need, an opportunity to receive holiday gifts through the generous donations of individuals, business, and organizations.
Project Joy...bringing JOY to area children and families in need!
Christmas is a time of year when family needs are intensified. Initiated by volunteers over 20 years ago, the Helping Hands Christmas Project/ Angel Tree ensures that children of Brookings County have an opportunity to receive holiday gifts. In 2006 the Helping Hands Christmas Project underwent some renovations to meet the needs of even more children in Brookings.
During the 2007 holiday season, Project Joy provided gifts to over 400 children in Brookings County and most recently in 2011 over 650 children were served! Parents now have the opportunity to “shop” for their children at a holiday “store”, stocked with toys , gift cards and clothing generously donated by local businesses, churches, schools, individuals and community organizations.
Goals for 2012
With your continued support we will be able to stock another incredible holiday store for children and families in need. Once again, we are asking individuals, businesses, and organizations to be creative in their method of raising funds and collecting toys for local children.
A gift drive is an excellent way to get your organization in the holiday spirit while helping some children in need. Gift drives provide people in your organization complete freedom to select what they want without any guidelines. You may also want to consider doing challenges within departments, allowing employees to wear jeans on Friday if they bring a toy, offering discounts to customers who bring in a new toy, or hosting an employee luncheon where employees bring a toy as admission to the event. These are just a few suggestions, the possibilities are endless! Be creative and have fun!!
We will happily accept gifts for children of all ages. Checks, money orders, gift certificates, and gift cards in any amount are always welcome – especially for children 13 to 18 years of age! Remember, your donations are tax deductible and we will provide you with a receipt if needed.
Brookings Radio has agreed to be our drop off location. Unwrapped gifts may be delivered during regular business hours Monday through Friday. A Best Choice moving van will be parked in the lot to make delivery of gifts easy for you and your organization. The deadline for gift drop off is Wednesday, December 5. The store will be open to families December 8 & 9.
